ERP EU2019 / 2020 and EU 2019 / 2015 Enforcement Time

ERP (Energy related products) is one of the four directives of European CE certification, and the rest are LVD (safety regulation directive), EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive) and RoHS (Toxic Substances Directive). CE is a mandatory directive for importing products to EU countries, while ERP has been enforced since September 1st, 2013.

CE

EU stipulates: all electronic and electrical products sold in Europe must meet the requirements of ERP testing or ERP certification (energy saving requirements of products related to energy consumption in Europe)

The new edition of EU CE certification - ERP directive - 2009 / 125 / EC was officially issued: ERP directive EC 244 / 2009, EC 245 / 2009, EU 1194 / 2012 and energy efficiency labeling directive EU 874 / 2012 are related to lighting products,

For lighting products, ERP mainly considers the service life and optical, color and electrical parameters of the products.

In recent years, EU has reviewed these directives by referring to the continuously improved lighting product technology, environmental and economic factors and actual user behavior, and issued a new edition of ERP directive EU 2019 / 2020 and energy efficiency labeling directive EU 2019 / 2015 on December 5th, 2019.

The new edition of ERP directive EU 2019 / 2020 specifies the ecological design requirements for the following products:

 (a) Light source;

(b) Separate light source control device;

These requirements also apply to light sources and separate light source control devices in combination products sold on the market (e.g. lamps for lighting).

The new edition of energy efficiency labeling directive EU 2019 / 2015 specifies the energy efficiency labeling requirements for light sources and light sources used in combination products.

The new edition of ERP directive EU 2019 / 2020 and the energy efficiency labeling directive EU 2019 / 2015 will be implemented from December 25th, 2019 and enforced from September 1st, 2021. At that time, the old edition of ERP directives EC 244 / 2009 and EC 245 / 2009 EU 1194 / 2012 and energy efficiency labeling directive EU 874 / 2012 will be replaced.

The main differences between the new edition of ERP EU 2019 / 2020 directive and the old edition are as follows:

◆ Household electrical appliances, furniture and other products with lamps are added to the scope of application;

◆ change the calculation of energy efficiency from EEI index to Ponmax, add the factor of color rendering index and increase the requirements of energy efficiency;

◆ Add flicker test: SVM, Pst LM;

◆ Add the power consumption requirements of network standby under network control;

◆ Add the requirements for energy conversion efficiency of the driver;

◆ Switch cycle test, startup time and preheating time test are deleted;

◆ Quantity of test samples: 10pcs light sources and 3pcs drivers are require only;

◆ The durability test lasts 3600 hours, of which the lighting time is 3000 hours. The test time is greatly reduced, but the requirement of luminous flux maintenance rate is greatly improved.

The main differences between the new edition of energy efficiency labeling EU 2019 / 2015 directive and the old edition are as follows:

◆ The calculation of energy efficiency grade is changed from EEI index to η TM (LM/W), which is more intuitive;

◆ The classification of energy efficiency grade is changed from Class A to class G;

◆ Higher energy efficiency requirements. For example, the previous class A + + is only equivalent to the current class E.
