On June 10, 2022, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) announced the 27th update of the REACH candidate list, formally adding N-Methylol acrylamide to the SVHC candidate list because it may cause cancer or genetic defects. It is mainly used in polymers and in the manufacture of other chemicals, textiles, leather or fur. So far, the SVHC candidate list has included 27 batches, increased from 223 to 224 substances.

Substance name EC No CAS No Reasons for inclusion Examples of possible uses
N-Methylol acrylamide 213-103-2 924-42-5 Carcinogenicity (article 57a) Mutagenicity (article 57b) As polymeric monomers, fluoroalkyl acrylates, paints and coatings

According to REACH rule, when the company's substances are included in the candidate list (whether in the form of themselves, mixtures or articles), the company has legal obligations.

  • 1. Suppliers of articles containing candidate list substances in concentrations greater than 0.1% by weight must provide their customers and consumers with sufficient information to enable them to use these articles safely.
  • 2. Consumers have the right to ask suppliers whether the products they buy contain substances of high concern.
  • 3、Importers and producers of articles containing N-Methylol acrylamide shall notify the European Chemicals Agency within 6 months (10 June 2022) from the date of listing of the article. Suppliers of substances on the shortlist, whether individually or in combination, must provide safety data sheets to their customers.
  • 4. According to the Waste Framework Directive, if the product produced by the company contains substances of high concern with a concentration of more than 0.1% (calculated by weight), it must be notified to ECHA. This notification is published in ECHA's product database of substances of concern (SCIP).
